Zoram Medical College Falkawn, Mizoram

Introduction

oram Medical College (ZMC) [erstwhile MIMER] was established under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Establishment of new medical colleges by upgrading district/referral hospitals’.

On 19th Feb. 2014 Dr Vishwas Mehta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, gave approval for opening of new Medical College at State Referral Hospital Falkawn and a MoU signed between Government of India and Government of Mizoram on the 16th May 2014 with a total project cost of Rs. 189 lakhs.

A provisional Consent of Affiliation was given by Mizoram University on the 7th January, 2015.

HSCC (India) Limited was accepted as the consultancy agency on the 25th June 2015.

MIMER has been granted the Letter of Permission (LoP) by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India vide letter no No.U.12012/37/2018-M E-1 [FTS No. 3154165 Dt. 25/5/18 for intake capacity of 100 students for 1st MBBS Academic session 2018-2019.

The name of the college MIMER was changed to Zoram Medical College (ZMC) as per the decision of the Council of Ministers on the 26th April, 2019.

LOCATION 

The SRHF is located on an important road connecting Aizawl with the southern part of the state through Lunglei city. It is about 14 Kms from Aizawl with travel time of about 20-30 min.

HISTORY

Construction work on the State Referral Hospital commenced in 1999 after funds were received from the Planning Commission, Government of India following approval of Rs. 40 crore for the proposal by the then Prime Minister, Mr. H. D. Deve Gowda in 1996.

The State Referral Hospital, Falkawn (SRHF) had a humble beginning when it started functioning as a 50 bedded hospital in the Administrative Building from 21st July 2005, with just a handful of staff. Subsequently, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mr. _, commissioned 150 beds on 10th Dec 2012 with provision of the following services–

  • Obstetric & Gynaecology
  • Surgery
  • Dental Surgery
  • Medicine – On rotation from Civil Hospital, Aizawl
  • Paediatrics- On rotation from Civil Hospital, Aizawl

Dr. Jane R. Ralte joined as the first Deputy Medical Superintendent in October 2013. Service provided was then scaled up in 10th February 2015 with transfer of 8 Specialist Doctors to the hospital.

Dr. Lalhmuchhuaka joined as the first Medical Superintendent in February, 2016.

State Referral Hospital, Falkawn was notified as a 300 bedded hospital by the Govt. of Mizoram on 2nd February 2016.

At present, the hospital is functioning as a 300 bedded hospital to be upgraded to 500 beds within 4 years and the following specialities are available-

Admission Process – MBBS

1. ALLOTMENT OF MBBS SEATS: All allotment of seats under Zoram Medical College is to be done through the Medical Counselling Committee of India (MCC) and the Technical Wing, Higher & Technical Education Department, Govt. of Mizoram. All queries related to the allotment process for State Quota and NRI Quota are to be taken up with this department. Only students who are allotted seats by the MCC and H&TE Department, Mizoram will be given admission to Zoram Medical College. DO NOT CONTACT ZMC DIRECTLY FOR ALLOTMENT OF SEATS.

3. MEDICAL INVESTIGATION: Medical Investigations should be done at any Government or Private Hospital / Clinic for the following. Candidates should bring the results of these investigations at the time of Final Medical Check-up.

5FINAL MEDICAL CHECK-UP: A Final Medical Check-up will be conducted at the College by the Medical Board, ZMC at the time of Verification. Candidate must bring all the six investigation results mentioned in No.3.

6OFFLINE ADMISSIONFinalizing the admission process like Submission of Documents will be done in OFFLINE mode (i.e. at Zoram Medical College).

  1. Document showing the Rate of Exchange at the time of Fee Payment signed by the Bank Manager with seal.
  2. Documents claiming that the sponsorer is an NRI (Passport, Visa of the sponsorer)
  3. A duly notarized Relationship Affidavit of NRI with the candidate as per Supreme Court ruling WP(C) 689/2017.
  4. A duly notarized Affidavit of Undertaking from the sponsorer that he/ she will sponsor the candidate for the entire course.
  5. Embassy Certificate of the Sponsorer (Certificate from the Consulate)

Note: The relationship of NRI with the candidate should comply with the following conditions:

  1. He/She should be the nearest relation
  2. Definition of the nearest relation, the following relative having blood relations.
    1. Real brother and sister of father i.e. real uncle and real aunt.
    2. Real brother and sister of mother i.e. real maternal uncle and maternal aunt.
    3. Father and mother of mother i.e. maternal grandfather and maternal grandmother.
    4. Father and mother of mother i.e. maternal grandfather and maternal grandmother.
    5. First degree-paternal and maternal cousins.
    6. Such person should be NRI.
  3. Such persons should ordinarily be residing abroad.
  4. Such person should have looked after such student as the guardian of the student and evidence to that effect must have been produced before the committee by such person.

 AFFIDAVITS OF OATH-TAKING: Oath-taking by the candidates as well as their parents/guardians will be made and signed at the time of verification.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Admission will not be finalized unless the candidate:

  1. cleared all the Admission Fees.
  2. fully completed the process of Offline Admission.
  3. produced all the required documents
  4. passed the Medical Investigations
  5. is fully deemed suitable for admission by the institute.

Candidates who fail to report or join the session within the stipulated date, without prior permission from the concerned authorities are liable to have their admission cancelled.

SEALED TENDER NOTICE

          Expression of Interest in a sealed tender is hereby invited as per scheduled to this notice on behalf of the Chairman, Zoram Medical College from interested and reputed firms for Hostel Mess Contractor, which will be received by the Director, Zoram Medical College, Falkawn, Mizoram on or before 24.01.2022 (Monday) up to 12:00 Noon. Tenders are to be opened under the chairmanship of Director Zoram Medical College, Falkawn, or his authorized representatives at 2:00 PM on the same day. The Tenderers or their representatives may also be present at the time of the Opening of the quotations if they so desire.
